The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
