Automobiles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Officers mentioned they were notified by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then found numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the incident left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
